I Accidentally Revealed How Much I Earned on Medium from Jan 2016 to Nov 2022
I love answering questions on Quora and so it is only after I published my answer did I realize that I had accidentally revealed a screenshot of my $3.68 earnings for almost 6 years on Medium.
You know what! After reading this please comment or inbox me with ideas on how I can 100x my income on Medium and maybe then I may persuade them to add more payout options for international writers.
Here’s the question I was answering on Quora:
What is the best money sending app to Kenya?
My answer:
As a digital marketing expert and lead generation specialist with clients outside of Kenya, I have personally used and recommend these money transfer apps for sending funds to Kenya (I’ve ranked them according to my most preferred or recommended to the worst):
1. Wise: the international account | Money without borders (formarly Transferwise)
2. Remitly
3. Sendwave (World Remit which works similar to Remitly just acquired Sendwave for $500 Million)
4. Payoneer (they have the best customer service — swift and understanding)
5. Skrill
6. Bank Tranfer (This may take as short as a week and as long as a month depending on unavoidable banking issues)
I would never recommend Paypal because they have limited two of my accounts with salaries that was urgently depending on. They never offered explanation and they behave the way scammers would. Getting a hold of Paypal’s customer service is a nightmare.
The only time I would recommend Paypal is when transacting as a business but even then your cash is never guaranteed. You might wake up to a limited account and unable to get cashflow vital to the survival of your legitimate online business.
The best thing about my favorite payment platforms listed above is that you can receive your cash from the US straight to your Mpesa in a matter of seconds as long as your accounts are registered properly.
I have been advocating for Stripe to consider servicing countries such as Kenya because a large percentage of remote workers actually come from such developing countries. Platforms such as Medium and Substack only pay writers using Stripe.
Since Jan 2016, I have earned a total of $3.68. It is laughable but it’s my earnings and I can’t withdraw because Stripe ignores developing countries such as Kenya that contribute so much to American economy through remote human capital. The ability to withdraw the little I earn from my writing efforts with zero marketing would motivate me to work harder to earn more. But these businesses can just add more payout options for writers rather than writers hoping that Stripe will magically start serving developing countries.
I ranted about this issue in this article:

I recently started focusing my writing efforts on Substack, the article above is on my Substack but I also compared the two platforms
